Application

All students need to use the VT Graduate School online application. Please read the instructions for applying online. The online application requires an application fee that can be paid by debit or credit card, or checks. Beginning with Spring 2012 applications, the applicants are asked to upload a copy of the transcript when they apply instead of having a paper copy mailed from the institution. Then, applicants who are accepted for admission and decide to come to VT are responsible for having an official transcript (showing conferral of their degree) sent to the Graduate School before they enroll. Please review the Graduate Schools site regarding the application process. We do NOT require GRE scores or letters of recommendation for our program. After the Graduate School (GS) processes your application, it comes to the School of Education (SOE), then it will be given to ITMA Staff for review. After ITMA staff make a decision, your documents will be sent back to the SOE office, and then back to the Graduate School for final action. This takes at least two weeks. You can check the status of your application on the GS application webpage. You will be notified by the Graduate School regarding your acceptance. If accepted, you will receive an official letter from the Graduate School and a welcome email from ITMA.

Readmission

Reapply

ITMA students who have not registered for classes in two consecutive semester (i.e. Fall/Spring; Spring/Fall) must formally apply online for readmission. A non-refundable fee is required for readmission. You can follow the instructions for reapplying at www.itma.vt.edu/apply.html.

Change Student Status

If you were accepted under provisional status or are a Commonwealth Campus student, then you need to change your status before completing 12 credit hours if you intend to pursue a degree. You are responsible for checking your student status and letting us know if you need to be changed from provisional status/Commonwealth Campus student to "Regular Student".

Provisional Status:
You must have maintained a GPA at or above a 3.0. There is no fee associated with this change of status.

Commonwealth Campus Status
According to Graduate School policy, Commonwealth Campus students may not earn a graduate degree while enrolled under this status. Therefore, if you begin the ITMA program as a Commonwealth Campus student, you will be required to change your registration status to "Regular Student" in order to earn your degree. To begin the process of changing your status, you must:

- complete 12 hours of ITMA courses

- be a student in good standing

- maintain a 3.0 GPA

To change from Provisional/Commonwealth Campus status to regular status, you must make formal application for admission to the Graduate School and submit two official transcripts of your undergraduate and graduate records. The Graduate School may place a hold on your account until you request status change. You will be charged a fee for this application.

Leave of Absence

A student may request a leave of absence to suspend activities associated with course work due to personal, family, or health reasons. ITMA students should inform ITMA staff of your leave of absence as well as the expected date of return to the program. A Request for Leave of Absence form must be submitted to Graduate School two weeks before the beginning of the semester for which the leave is requested. A readmission form is required before the planned semester of re-enrollment. A non-refundable fee is required for readmission.
