Honor Code

Each ITMA student is expected to abide by the Virginia Tech Graduate Honor System.

The Graduate Honor System establishes a standard of academic integrity. The code demands a firm adherence to a set of values and is founded on the concept of honesty with respect to the intellectual efforts of oneself and others.

Compliance with the Graduate Honor System requires that all graduate students exercise honesty and ethical behavior in all their academic pursuits here at Virginia Tech, whether these undertakings pertain to study, course work, research, extension, or teaching.

- See more at: http://graduateschool.vt.edu/academics/expectations/graduate-honor-system.html

The VT Graduate School requires that all graduate students be trained in some ethical issues around academic issues that are necessary for successful completion of graduate school and beyond, such as writing without plagiarizing and including proper citations. The SOE has developed a training module that most of the programs use for meeting these requirements, and each program has also identified course(s) that meet additional ethical issues that might be more specifically relevant to specific professions. Students in the ITMA program will complete the Ethics module in lesson two of the EDIT-5274 Foundations of Instructional Design and Technology course.Note: Please use Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer to open the Ethic Modules.

Submit your Assignment

Submitting assignments involves several steps. First login to the SASI with your ITMA username and its password. Once you have logged into the SASI, select the course from the Modules list and SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT from the Options list. On the following page:

Step 1. Scroll to Select the assignment that you are responding to.

Step 2. Select the file on your computer that you want to upload for the assignment you selected in Step 1. You are given the option to browse a directory of files on your computer and select a file. When you identify the file you intend to upload to your ITMA filebox, the url that will be assigned to that file in the ITMA database will be shown and that information also will be added automatically into the ITMA database. You do not need to copy and paste url information as you might have done in the past.

Step 3. Press the Green Submit Assignment button. Pressing this button causes the file you selected to be uploaded into the appropriate course folder in your ITMA Filebox account. Assuming this process is successful, your file will be available for the course instructor and grader to review.

Assignment Policy

Assignment Due Dates

Assignment due date for each assignment can be found under Syllabus which is listed in vertical menu in the course site. Generally, due dates are meant to be a guide so that you can complete the course by the end of the semester. There are no penalties for late assignments. However, late assignments can interfere with your completion of the course.

Difference between suggested/recommended and required assignment due dates:

There are assignments with required due dates. It is very important that you meet these deadlines. Often, these deadlines are set due to the nature of the assignment. There are assignments within the program that require an evaluation of your peer's work. Staying on task with these assignments not only helps you complete the course on time, but also assists your peers in the completion of their work.

Resubmit assignments:

You are allowed to resubmit assignments and it is up to each facilitator regarding the amount of times you may resubmit an assignment.

View Grade & Comments

The interface that we use to grade assignments allows us to add specific comments for each item in the grading rubric. You can see these comments in the Student Interface (the same one you use to submit assignments--http://www.citsie.net/newitma/student_login.cfm). After logging in, select the module/course and then "Check Assignment Status". On the next page, select the specific assignment to view the comments from the facilitator. As always if you have any questions please feel free to email itma@vt.edu with your questions.

Incompletes

Request Incomplete

If you are unable to finish up course work during the semester in which you are registered please send an incomplete request to your facilitator. Requesting an incomplete will allow you more time to finish up coursework, it will not affect your GPA. However, all incompletes should be finished before registering for more courses. If you are receiving financial aid, you will need to review their policies and procedures on Reasonable Academic Progress.

Access incomplete course

You will lose Canvas access to your current courses when the semester is over. Access to your courses in Canvas is only available the semester you were registered for the course. Once you are ready to begin working on incomplete courses, please follow the instructions below:

- Students can access course materials from previous semesters or summer sessions via the ITMA Student Interface (SASI). After logging in, select the course, then VIEW COURSE INFORMATION AND ASSIGNMENTS from the "Options" drop-down list. On the following page, select either INFORMATION to view the Course Overview and the "Before you begin this course" documents, or ASSIGNMENTS to view the list of assignments. (Learning Theories and Portfolio Evaluation are exceptions, so if you have incompletes in these two courses please contact itma@vt.edu to request access to the course).

- Please email itma@vt.edu to get current facilitator contact information. You will need to contact the facilitator for your course once you begin submitting assignments. Please be sure to include the semester that you were originally registered for the course in the email.

- Once you finish incomplete courses, the facilitator will submit a grade change. The grade change will go to the Graduate School and it may take up to two weeks before showing on your unofficial transcript. Note: Your unofficial transcript can be found in Hokie SPA.
